Nearby, there are good local facilities, including a grocery store, post office, hardware store, an excellent local butcher and a choice of traditional pubs and excellent restaurants.

Walking and Mountain Biking

This is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists as both the National Cycle Route runs through the farm and the Southern Upland Way, Scotland's longest and most challenging walking route, is nearby. The Cycle route takes you the two mile to the 7stanes Kirroughtree Mountain Bike Centre either for lunch at it's excellent cafe, to hire a bike at the breakpad shop or onto one of the world class trails. Other active options include exploring the Galloway Forest Park with its 300 square miles of beautiful green forest or taking you further to the 7stanes.com mountain biking centre at Glentrool. Electric Bikes can be hired from the Creetown Initiative at 54 St Johns St 01671 820654. Mountain bikes can be hired from thebreakpad.com at Kirroughtree on 01671 401303.

Wildlife

Our location is great base to explore the wildlife, from the Wild Goat Park in the Galloway Forrest to the Red Kite Feeding Station near Laurieston. We are a stones throw from the Solway coast and there is a wonderful community woodland above the village, with large wildlife ponds and the Balloch Burn.

Local Towns

Our cottages are ideally situated west of the Market Town of Castle Douglas and the Artists Town of Kirkcudbright, and east of Wigtown (Scotland's Famous Book Town) and Newton Stewart at the foot of the Galloway Hills. In Creetown itself there is the a lovely cafe at the Gem Rock Museum.

Kids

There are wonderful sandy beaches at Mossyard and Monreith, but for cloudy days Cream o Galloway or the Chocolate Factory offer great days out and a favorite trip is to the Mull of Galloway.

Gardens and Days Out

There are some wonderful gardens open to visit in Dumfries and Galloway including Logan Botanics, Threave and Castle Kennedy.
